Chinatown Bike Rack Design Competition
The deadline for submissions is December 22, 2015
With its lovely architecture and flavourful restaurants, Chinatown is a great place to explore – especially by bike! Help us create custom bike racks for those coming into one of downtown’s most culturally diverse districts.
Artists are asked to submit a line drawing that is graphically strong and that takes into account criteria for functional bicycle racks. Three artists (or three teams of artists) will be chosen, by a selection committee, to refine and transfer their drawings to digital files that will be used as a pattern for laser cut steel bicycle racks. The goal is to produce up to twenty bicycle racks (including three unique designs) for installation in 2016. Each artist or team of artists will be paid an honorarium of $1000 for each winning bicycle rack design selected.
2015 Accessibility Design Standards
The revised 2015 Accessibility Design Standards for City of Winnipeg built environments is now posted on the Planning Property and Development web site.
Universal Design is the practice of designing environments that can be efficiently used by people with a wide range of abilities operating in a wide range of situations. It is about putting people first, providing the same opportunity for accessing services, landscapes, buildings and information to young and old, with or without disabilities regardless of life circumstances.
A set of standards that supplement the City of Winnipeg Universal Design Policy approved by Council in December 2001. Please note this is not a regulatory document, but a set of standards to be used for City of Winnipeg owned or leased buildings and environments.
