New Rules on Experience Effective July 1, 2012

In an effort to fall in line at the national level, the MAA Council has agreed to adopt a policy, whereby back-entering or retroactive entry of experience gained prior to admission as an Intern, will no longer be permitted. (It should be noted that the policy will not apply to internationally educated individuals, who frequently need considerable time to obtain CACB certification and qualify for admission to the Intern Program.)

The policy will take effect on July 1, 2012. The MAA would request the assistance of all employers, to ensure that any and all employees who might be affected, are advised accordingly.

CITY OF WINNIPEG BSDS

The City of Winnipeg's Building and Site Design Summary (BSDS) has been updated and is now available on the City's website.

  • Version 2.0 of the BSDS is now available online at http://winnipeg.ca/ppd/ under the What's New heading
  • The BSDS has been updated to reflect recent amendments to the Winnipeg Building By-Law and the Winnipeg Electrical By-Law
  • Effective April 30, 2012 - permit applications for commercial new construction and additions must be accompanied by this Version 2.0 of the BSDS
  • Version 2.0 of the BSDS includes the new Required Professional Designer's Certificate (RPDC) - see also http://winnipeg.ca/ppd/PermitsXpress/PDFs/RPDC.pdf

As a number of members are aware, the MAA has expressed serious concern with regard to the final bulletin point which appears on the owner's certificate (about recommended levels of insurance) and considers this matter to remain under discussion with the City of Winnipeg. The MAA hopes this issue will be resolved sometime soon and the standard certificate amended accordingly.
