TD Presents The Walrus Talks Arctic

Eighty minutes of lively, thought-provoking ideas about the issues and opportunities that make the North truly unique. Featuring Walrus Talks by:

  • Whitney Lackenbauer, historian, author, Fulbright Scholar
  • Michael Maltzan, architect of the WAG's new Inuit Art Centre

  • Lola Sheppard, Arctic Adaptations project lead
  • Tanya Tagaq, performer and Polaris Prize Winner
  • Sheila Watt-Cloutier, environmental and human-rights advocate

The event will take place on Thursday, March 26 beginning at 7:00p.m. at the Winnipeg Art Gallery located at 300 Memorial Blvd. What is the Walrus Talks? The Walrus Talks is a national series of events produced by the charitable, non-profit Walrus Foundation as part of an educational mandate to provide forums for conversations on matters vital to Canadians. The Walrus Foundation produces The Walrus magazine, the most awarded publication in Canada, as well as producing content at, on Walrus TV, and on stages from coast to coast to coast.

Building Codes: Mezzanines and Interconnected Floor Spaces

March 20; Facilitated by Dr. John Frye and the City of Winnipeg

This half day course provides participants with a basic understanding of the application of Subsection 3.2.8. Mezzanines and Openings through Floor Assemblies of the 2010 National Building Code of Canada (NBCC) to buildings regulated by Pa rt 3 of the Code.

You will benefit from this course if you are a contractor, architect, technologist, engineer or interior designer and work with Part 3 of the NBC.

*Attendees will receive a custom software package that includes the 2010 NBC and editions dating back to 1975.

March 25; Bryan Smith, C.Tech, Electrical Designer

With 13 years of industry experience Mr. Smith has been responsible for the electrical design and contract administration for many large scale Winnipeg projects, such as the Winnipeg Air Terminal and the RBC Convention Centre.

This presentation will cover:

  • overcoming the challenges of lighting the fieldhouse
  • controls for the lighting
  • costing
  • energy perspective for different lighting options

The 2014 SDA Canada Salary Survey Final Report is now available. Copies may be ordered directly from the Society of Design Administration Canada. Please send a message to to indicate your desire to order a copy.

The cost of the Survey Report is:

  • $99 if your firm participated in completing the survey
  • $199 for all others non-participants
