2014 Architecture Fringe Festival Urban Marker Competition

Deadline: 4:00pm, March 3rd, 2014

The Urban Marker Competition has been established to create a unique physical marker to signal and to celebrate events and locations of the Architecture Fringe Festival happenings.

We now are seeking new and innovative proposals for a 2014 Marker. The design criteria for the 2014 Marker are as follows:

  • striking and inspiring in its formal and material constitution.
  • visible, both by day or by night
  • able to incorporate a limited amount of text
  • easy to transport
  • easy to assemble and to take down
  • able to withstand Spring weather
  • and have a shelf life to exceed the RAIC Festival.
  • And it could be many other things ….

The entries should be prepared as a PDF file (up to 5MB) and emailed to info@storefrontmb.ca.

Learn about the benefits of a LEED home, what to anticipate, difficulties/challenges. Gio Robson, Manitoba's "go to" for LEED Canada for Homes will also discuss expectations, focus and outcome of a LEED Canada for Home project.

Passive House Design Fundamentals

The energy performance of Passive House buildings demand a rigorous and scientific approach to design and construction. Ross Elliott will present an introduction to Passive House design fundamentals and share his experience with the Passive House approach to construction. More details to follow.

Full Day Workshop:

Ross Elliott will engage attendees in a more comprehensive discussion of the Passive House standard and its related building science during this full day workshop. Applications will primarily focus on Ross's experience with residential singles, attached and mid-ride buildings, along with some discussion and examples of how Passive House can be integrated into larger buildings.

FACULTY OF ARCHITECTURE ENDOWMENT FUND 2014

Application deadline is Monday, March 3, 2014

The Faculty of Architecture, at The University of Manitoba, invites submissions for the annual disbursement from the Faculty of Architecture Endowment Fund. The amount available for disbursement is approximately $60,000.

Interest revenue generated from the Fund will be allocated to projects providing academic enrichment, or advancing the academic and research goals of the Faculty of Architecture as represented by: Architecture, City Planning, Environmental Design, Interior Design, and Landscape Architecture. Applications are invited from constituencies related to the Faculty, normally to include staff, students, alumni and friends of the Faculty.

Architectural Design & Documentation for LEED

Learn about the role architecture plays in sustainable design/construction and how to successfully achieve the LEED credits that are typically the responsibility of the architect.

There are two Architectural Design and Documentation courses that will be combined as a full-day workshop:

Part 1 discusses how to successfully meet requirements for the LEED credits that are typically the architect's responsibility.

Part 2 considers the selection of sustainable materials and maximizing indoor environmental quality on LEED projects.

This full day workshop incorporates Architectural Design and Documentation Parts 1 and 2 from the LEED in Practice series, and is designed for architects, interns, architectural technologists, and LEED green building consultants who are currently or potentially working on LEED projects.

*Approved for 6 GBCI CE hours
