Commerce Design Winnipeg

DEADLINE TO ENTER December 12, 2013

The Commerce Design Winnipeg contest will reward up to ten Winnipeg merchants who have called on interior design and architecture professionals to help them design or redesign their businesses.

In addition to the usual criteria for evaluating the quality of commercial design projects (e.g. creativity; aesthetics; coherencof the interior, exterior and graphic design; functionality; security; ease of maintenance; longevity; etc.), situating projects in their particular contexts is key to the jury's evaluation. The jury's selection aims to reflect a broad range of commercial realities in Winnipeg, so that as many businesses as possible can identify with one or another of the winning establishments. The Human Scale

50% of the world’s population lives in urban areas. By 2050 this will increase to 80%. Life in a mega city is both enchanting and problematic. Today we face peak oil, climate change, loneliness and severe health issues due to our way of life. But why? Danish architect and professor Jan Gehl has studied human behavior in cities through 40 years. He has documented how modern cities repel human interaction, and argues that we can build cities in a way, which takes human needs for inclusion and intimacy into account.

Part of the Architecture+Film Series at the Winnipeg Film Group’s Cinematheque, these two films will be screened beginning at 7:00pm on Thursday, December 5, 2013. The Winnipeg Film Group’s Cinematheque is located at 100 Arthur Street in Winnipeg.

Admission is free.
