2015 Premier’s Award for Design Excellence


The Manitoba Association of Architects (MAA), Professional Interior Designers Institute of Manitoba (PIDIM) and Manitoba Association of Landscape Architects (MALA) will celebrate outstanding contributions to the social, cultural, artistic and economic development of our Province and enhancement of quality of life through excellence in design with the reintroduction of the Premier’s Award for Design Excellence (PADE).

Two types of awards may be awarded: Award of Excellence and Award of Merit.

Submission Category

  1. Architecture An open Architectural category. Submissions of all scopes of architectural built work completed in the last 5 years.
  2. Interior Design An open Interior Design category. Submissions of all scopes of interior built work completed in the last 5 years.
  3. Landscape Architecture An open Landscape Architecture Design category. Submissions of all scopes of landscape built work completed in the last 5 years.
  4. Small Projects An open Design category. Submissions of all scopes of built work completed in the last 5 years.
  5. Student Projects An open Design category. Submissions of all scopes of work, built or unbuilt, completed in the last 5 years.

2016 College of Fellows Nominations

Deadline: October 31, 2015

The guidelines for the nomination process are on the RAIC website: The documentation is to be submitted correctly to the Manitoba National Committee Regional Chair for review at least two weeks before the October deadline and he will forward it on to the College of Fellows for consideration.

The Manitoba Design Exposition

The MDE is a one day trade show for the design community of Manitoba presented by the PIDIM. This invitation-only event provides an informal and informative atmosphere designed to offer a snapshot of the latest products and services. The event also serves as an excellent networking opportunity - bringing the design and vendor communities together. We are able to showcase more than 80 exhibitors.

The Manitoba Excellence in Sustainability Awards recognize and honour people, projects and ideas that successfully turn the principles and guidelines of sustainable development into lasting achievements. Sustainable development is an approach to daily decision-making that integrates probable consequences to our environment, our economy and the health and well-being of all Manitobans. It’s a way of making decisions that balances the needs of today without sacrificing the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

The deadline for submission: Monday, October 5, 2015 at 2:00pm CST

Three winning teams will be selected in the WARMING HUTS COMPETITION from submissions of designs for a warming hut or art installation to be located on the Red River Mutual River Trail located on the Assiniboine and Red Rivers in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The jury will be selecting the winning designs based on their creativity in use of materials, providing shelter, poetics of assembly and form, integration with the landscape, and ease of construction.

Grants to organizations Grants for galleries, publishers and event organizers to produce books, exhibitions, films and events on contemporary architecture. ($50,000 max.)

Prix de Rome for Emerging Practitioners:
Prize awarded to a recent graduate of a Canadian school of architecture who demonstrates exceptional potential in contemporary architectural design. The recipient will travel to broaden his or her knowledge and do an internship in a firm of his or her choice.

Travel Grants
For architects and independent critics and curators who travel to research an exhibition or publication project, or present their work to the public ($500 – $2,500).
